Longtime member of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the AHS, Faith Stenning, who passed away in October 2014, honored us in her will by donating her harps and music library to our chapter. To celebrate her memory and her bequest we will hold a Faith Stenning Tribute Concert at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 17th at her church, The First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh. One of Faith's sons, Blake Stenning, will attend and speak at this event, which will be followed by a reception at 4:00 p.m.
Faith is known, among many other accomplishments, for starting a group of lever harpists called The Harp Grove. This group performed frequently at the Ligonier Highland Games and other events in the Pittsburgh area. Melanie Sandrock, a Chapter member and participant in The Harp Grove is the harp teacher for the Ringgold School District Harp Ensemble. Melanie and some of her students will join us for this concert to honor Faith and her love of harp ensemble music.
This concert is an opportunity for all chapter members to participate in a harp ensemble event. The music for this concert will include several favorite Celtic pieces of The Harp Grove. Pedal and lever harpists are welcome to participate in the ensemble.
To honor Faith’s gift to our chapter we will offer for sale at the May 17th Tribute Concert items from her music library and two of her three lever harps. The proceeds from the sale of the music and harps will be used in part to establish a Faith Stenning Harp Study Scholarship Fund. Chapter members will have the first opportunity to purchase Faith’s harps and music.
